Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has said that Donald Trump is a “bigot who’s clearly unfit for office” Thursday during a press call with reporters where he once again called on Republicans to confirm Supreme Court Justice nominee Merrick Garland.
Reid said that if Republican senators were looking for a way to distance themselves from Trump, confirming Garland—which they have refused to do for months—is a good option.
“When the Senate reconvenes in September, McConnell and the Republicans have one last shot,” Reid said.
Reid said Republicans’ refusal to even hold a hearing on Garland’s confirmation remains a major issue with voters. He said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to hold a hearing on Garland because of pressure from the billionaire megadonor Koch brothers.
Charles and David Koch have stayed away from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, but Reid said the pair are cleaning up after him with donations to GOP senators struggling with the Manhattan billionaire at the top of the ballot.
