It’s no secret that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan isn’t exactly a fan of Donald Trump. Ryan’s endorsement of Trump was like pulling teeth…and whenever Ryan is asked about Trump, he tries to deflect and change the conversation.
But Trump’s recent behavior has Ryan thinking differently.
Ryan recently had an interview with Charlie Sykes, a conservative radio talk show host, and during the interview Ryan said, “As I have said on numerous occasions, a religious test for entering our country is not reflective of these fundamental values. I reject it. … Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice. Captain Khan was one such brave example.”
Sensing there was a line that Trump could cross to make Ryan unendorse Trump, Sykes asked, “Is there anything that he could say that would cause you to basically say, ‘I’m cancelling that check?’”
Ryan answered, “Of course. But I’m not going to go down the road of relitigating his past comments.”
At this point, Ryan is probably better of backing away from Trump, and doing what he can to keep the House red. Then in 4 years, Ryan will run for president himself.
