Donald Trump’s doctor, Dr. Jacob Bornstein, probably wishes he wasn’t Trump’s doctor at this point. After writing that crazy letter about Trump’s health, and giving an even crazier interview to NBC, Bernstein has had a tough week.
So we were surprised that he agreed to a quick interview with CNN Friday morning, when CNN ambushed Bornstein outside his Park Avenue offices. However, CNN wasn’t expecting Bornstein’s angry wife to end the interview and threaten to call the cops.
During the interview, CNN’s Drew Griffin asked Bornstein how he felt about criticism both from the media and from other doctors depicting him as a lunatic after it was revealed that he hastily scribbled down a medical evaluation of Trump in just five minutes in which he stated that “if elected, Mr. Trump… will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”
Bornstein said, “Well, a lunatic doesn’t have my credentials. The only thing I wanted to do in my life is practice with my father, which I managed to do for 35 years.”
When asked why he used very unprofessional language in his letter — he said that Trump’s health as “astonishingly excellent,” for example — Bornstein replied that he was “rushed for time” and “had people to see.”
CNN had to hold the interview in a hallway because Bornstein was worried that his wife would get angry if she saw he’d agreed to talk to the press. Sure enough, when she arrived on the scene, she immediately threatened to call the police if CNN didn’t leave their property.
