Remember Mike Pence? He’s the grey-haired dude often standing next to Donald Trump, and rarely saying a word…just an occasional giggle.
Well, Pence was given a chance to speak up, and now we realize why Trump’s campaign might want to keep him quiet.
Appearing on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, Pence said the following during a conversation with David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the Ku Lux Klan:
“I’m not really sure why the media keeps dropping David Duke’s name. Donald Trump has denounced David Duke repeatedly. We don’t want his support, and we don’t want the support of people who think like him.”
Pence was then asked whether he would characterize Duke as deplorable, or “deserving censure or contempt.”
Of course he would, right?
Well, no. Pence said, “No, I’m not in the name-calling business, Wolf, you know me better than that.
On Tuesday morning, Trump Campaign Manager Kellyanne Conway appeared on CNN’s “New Day”, where she said that Pence should’ve called Duke deplorable, for no other reason than to avoid the avalanche of stories about his refusal to do so.
So basically, he should lie…so the press won’t beat him up over it…not because he doesn’t believe it is true.
When asked if Pence should define Duke as deplorable, Conway said, “He should — sure. So that — so that he doesn’t get headlines saying, ‘Mike Pence will not say Donald Trump [sic] is deplorable’ and people can get satisfied,”
