President Obama has 3 months left in office, and he’s done being polite.
In an interview on Steve Harvey’s morning radio show Wednesday morning, Obama said a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for Donald Trump. Obama also said people do not give hillary Clinton proper credit partly “because she’s a woman.”
Obama said, “If you don’t vote, that’s a vote for Trump. If you vote for a third-party candidate who’s got no chance to win, that’s a vote for Trump.”
Obama continued, “People just do not give her credit, and part of it maybe is because she’s a woman and we have not elected a woman president before. But here’s somebody who, as I said at the convention, is as qualified as anybody who has ever run for this office, and she’s been on the right side of the issues that we care about, and we need to support her and that begins by making sure that everybody is registered and everybody is voting. The stakes in this election is so high.”
Obama also took issue with Donald Trump’s treatment of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado. After Machado won the pageant in 1996, Trump made a public show of forcing her to lose weight, a point that Hillary Clinton brought up during Monday night’s presidential debate.
Obama said that Donald Trump “basically insulted women and then doubled down” by bringing up Machado’s weight in an post-debate interview.
“You had somebody who basically insulted women and then doubled down I think this morning in terms of how he talks about them and talks about their weight and talks about, you know, how they look instead of the content of their character and their capabilities,” Obama said, “which is not somebody that I want in the Oval Office.”
Trump didn’t deny the accusations (and much of it is provable via video). In fact, Trump only worsened the situation by reiterating his prior comments. Appearing on “Fox and Friends” Tuesday morning, Trump justified his 20-year-old behavior by saying that Machado “gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem.”
