Whether we like to admit it or not, Mike Pence has come out the winner of Tuesday night’s vice-presidential debate. You would think Donald Trump would be thrilled, right?
Now Trump, whose lack of preparation led to a decisive loss against Hillary Clinton the week before, is taking “credit” for Pence’s success.
“Mike Pence did an incredible job, and I’m getting a lot of credit because that’s really my first so-called choice,” Trump said at a rally in Nevada on Wednesday. “I’d argue that Mike had the single most decisive victory in the history of vice presidential debates. I believe that too,” Trump added. “And last night America also got to look first hand at my judgment, and that was judgment.”
The same CNN/ORC poll that had Trump losing his first debate to Clinton by 35 points had Pence edging out Kaine 48% to 42% last night.
