People are stilled pretty upset that Trump won, and that Melania Trump will be our First Lady (vomit).
So people are fighting back one of the only ways they can…with a boycott.
Now, certain designers are refusing to work with Melania, and hoping that others will join suit.
Designer Sophie Theallet has dressed Michelle Obama and designed clothes inspired by her. But she won’t be creating anything for Melania Trump, and she hopes other designers won’t either.
In an open letter posted to Twitter on Thursday, she urges the fashion industry to protest Trump by refusing to dress his wife.
“The Sophie Theallet brand stands against all discrimination and prejudice. Our runway shows, ad campaigns, and celebrity dressing have always been a celebration of diversity and a reflection of the world we live in,” it reads.
“I am well aware it is not wise to get involved in politics,” she continues. “That said, as a family-owned company, our bottom line is not just about money. We value our artistic freedom and always humbly seek to contribute to a more humane, conscious, and ethical way to create in this world.”
She concludes by saying, “I encourage my fellow designers to do the same. Integrity is our only true currency.”
And believe it or not, this is news worthy. The First Lady’s clothes end up in the Smithsonian. Designers usually go to great lengths to have the First Lady wear their clothes. Shows integrity from these designers.
1) Do you think this is fair? After all, Melania Trump didn’t run for president, and didn’t ask for this.
2) It’s not like Melania will have a hard time finding clothes. She has a beautiful, fit size 4/6 frame and can wear anything off the rack. So I doubt this will really hurt her.
