A Republican presidential elector from Texas is quitting…rather than cast his vote for Donald Trump.
Art Sisneros told Politico earlier this year that he was considering voting against Trump, but decided this week to resign instead. Sisneros said, “If Trump is not qualified and my role, both morally and historically, as an elected official is to vote my conscience, then I can not and will not vote for Donald Trump for President.”
“I believe voting for Trump would bring dishonor to God.”
Trump won Texas and its 38 Electoral College votes on Nov. 8th. Sisneros will be replaced with an alternate elector who will vote for Trump when the Texas electors convene on December 19.
“I will sleep well at night knowing I neither gave in to their demands nor caved to my convictions,” Sisneros said. “I will also mourn the loss of our republic.”
