Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said on Sunday that there’s “no reason” to delay confirmation hearings for Trump’s Cabinet nominees until their background checks are complete.
Priebus said on “Fox News Sunday”, “No, they have to get moving. They have to move faster. They have all the information. These are people that have been highly successful in their lives. They need to move quicker.”
Priebus continued, “The fact is there’s no reason. It’s the first week of January, they have all the details that they need, they have all the information that they need, it’s no different from any other new administration coming in. The American people demand it. Change was voted for and change we will get.”
From The Hill:
The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) announced this week that it was not able to complete background checks on several of Trump’s Cabinet picks. The ethics office accused Senate Republicans of rushing the confirmation hearings, despite being unable to do full ethics screenings and reviews on each nominee.
Democrats have vowed to slow down confirmation hearings if all ethics checks have not been completed.
On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he will not allow confirmation votes until all ethics paperwork has been completed.
