Over the weekend, tens of thousands of Americans took to the streets to protest Donald Trump and demand that he does what every president for the past forty years has done: release his tax returns.

Trump’s response?

If the Tax Day protests irritated him, next weekend’s March for Science should really kill him.

As Salon points out, the anti-Trump resistance is very much a grassroots effort, but there are leaders emerging. One of the most vocal is Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). At Saturday’s Tax Day march in Washington, Waters said,

I don’t respect this president. I don’t trust this president. He’s not working in the best interests of the American people. I will fight every day until he is impeached!

Then she led the crowd in a chant of “Impeach 45!”

Ann Coulter hates her. She said that without affirmative action, Waters “wouldn’t have a job that didn’t involve wearing a paper hat.” As Salon puts it, “Right-wingers often lose their composure when confronted with such a strong, unapologetic African-American woman who is unafraid of getting right up in their faces.”

Few Democrats are ready to join Waters in calling for impeachment just yet. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said that Trump is “incoherent,” “incompetent,” and “reckless,” but has insists those aren’t grounds for impeachment.

However, Trump’s presidential campaign is being investigated for colluding with Russia, and the list of his conflicts of interest are so great that almost anything could implicate him in a corruption scandal. Impeachment is not far-fetched.

Impeachment is the only means by which a president can be removed from office for cause. It isn’t easy to do, especially when the president’s party holds the majority. But if one of Trump’s many scandals should end up implicating him in a crime, Democrats and the American people will be ready for it.

Waters is making sure of that.

What do you think? Is impeachment really a possibility?
