The GOP’s reputation just took another massive hit after the exposure of California deputy attorney general Raymond Joseph Liddy’s child pornography stash. Officers arrested Liddy, 53, on Tuesday at his Coronado home.
Liddy pleaded not guilty and was released on a $100,000 bond. He is currently being tracked with GPS monitoring on home detention.
In January, a red flag went up when an electronic service provider subscriber uploaded a lewd image of a child. The service provider alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (CMEP). Fast forward a month, and a separate provider sent the CMEP a similar tip, only this time a user uploaded ten images.
The San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children task force followed the trail to Liddy’s home. Deeper into the investigation, the task force discovered that Liddy had portrayed himself as a 48-year-old married man with children.
Police then obtained a warrant to search Liddy’s home and found additional photos on his computer and a thumb drive. Liddy claims he used the alternate identity to share sexual fantasies with other adults and that he never purposely viewed child pornography.
The attorney general’s office is “aware of the matter.”
