The Washington Post broke the news on Wednesday that the FBI conducted a pre-dawn raid on former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s house last month, “using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.”
Just hours after the raid Trump tweeted a ban on transgender troops in the military and even more telling, asked why Attorney General Jeff Sessions hadn’t fired the acting FBI director.
In a series of tweets President Trump said:
“Why didn’t A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation but got… .big dollars ($700,000) for his wife’s political run from Hillary Clinton and her representatives. Drain the Swamp!”
Manafort attended a June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr and campaign officials and a Russian lawyer who promised to provide dirt on Hillary Clinton on behalf of the Russian government.
Manafort has turned over approximately 400 pages of documents to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is conducting its own Russia investigation. The House and Senate Intelligence committees have ongoing investigations as well.
