After the White House stated via Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Putin and Trump had nothing scheduled for Vietnam, the two men suddenly had a lot to talk about together. Trump is claiming that since Putin said all allegations against him concerning Russia are untrue, that he is innocent.
After their impromptu meeting on the sidelines of a regional economic summit in Vietnam Saturday, the pair issued a joint statement.
The statement says:
“President Trump and President Putin today, meeting on the margins of the APEC conference in Da Nang, Vietnam, confirmed their determination to defeat ISIS in Syria.”
The statement added that Trump said he had a “good meeting with President Putin.”
CIA Director Mike Pompeo responded to Putin’s claim stating that all allegations against Trump are “absurd.”
The CIA said in a statement:
“The director stands by and has always stood by the January 2017 intelligence community assessment entitled: ‘Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections.’ The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not changed.”
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One of his chat with Putin:
“He said he didn’t meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times… He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they are saying he did.”
