Representative Adam Schiff came forth this Sunday to declare that President Trump doesn’t want the public to see the “underlying facts” in the Democratic counter-memo because they would destroy his “claim of vindication” in the Russia investigation.
“The president doesn’t want you to see these facts from the FISA application because it completely undermines his claim of vindication,” Schiff explained while speaking with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” citing to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court application used to acquire a warrant to launch an investigation into a former Trump campaign aide.
Schiff, the top ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, stated that he plans to assist the FBI to redact the necessary information from the Democratic memo, which fights back against a document drafted by staff of the panel’s Republican chairman, Representative Devin Nunes.
The White House late last week fought back against the release of the Democrats’ memo after previously publishing the Nunes memo, which threw out accusations of surveillance abuses for the Justice Department, releasing them to the public.
Schiff declared this Sunday that he believes officials “followed all of the correct procedures” in constructing the application for a FISA warrant.
The California lawmaker, who has been at odds with Nunes and other House Intelligence Committee Republicans over the dueling memos, claimed that Trump is furthering his own interests by halting the counter-memo.
“This is a president who puts his own personal interests above the national security interest of the country,” Schiff said.
