Trump has been doing a great job of padding his lie total this week with more proven falsehoods. Earlier this week, he claimed that he increased military pay for the first time in years, and fact checkers were quick to point out the glaring lie.
The president appeared in Indiana this week to once again use the office of the presidency to profit. He held another premature campaign rally, and once again, he gave his deplorable supporters what they always crave the most: hate.
During his speech, he touted his efforts to bring home the U.S. prisoners in North Korea, but not without taking a shot at former President Obama.
“Kim Jong Un did a great service to himself and to his country by doing this. But those hostages came out, with respect, we didn’t pay for them.”
He continued, “What he did was the right thing, but they came out for nothing and the others came out for $1.8 billion in cash.”
Trump referenced the debunked theory that Obama had paid Iran $1.8 billion in January 2016 to release four U.S. prisoners. The money was actually used to settle a dispute over the sale of military equipment before the revolution in Iran.
